Stay Motivated During Winter Exercise

Winter Exercise

The cold weather can make it difficult to find the motivation for exercise but with the festive gorge just around the corner, it’s now the best time to go out and burn some calories.

When winter arrives and the cold weather strikes, the last thing most of us feel like doing is going for a workout. However, the winter is absolutely the best time to kick-start your fitness regime and if you have worked hard throughout the year, this is not the time to give up. There is no doubt that it is difficult to get off the couch during the winter months but the feeling you will achieve is worth the effort. Remember that the hardest part is finding the motivation to lift your bum off the sofa. Get past that and it’s over before you know it. If you are struggling with your winter fitness regime, these tips should help you stay motivated.

Ignore the Voice

The main problem we find for staying motivated is that little voice constantly saying ‘just stay in, it’s too cold out there’ and ‘you deserve a break’, but ignore it! Say to yourself that you are going to the gym or joining the boot camp class in Baxter Park and focus on the fact that you are doing it and not talking yourself out of it.

Find a Friend

Running with a friend

One of the most effective ways of staying motivated is to take a friend along with you when you go for a workout. Not only does it make it more enjoyable but you’ll feel guilty if you let them down, so you’ll be more likely to ensure you turn up!

Set Goals

No matter what time of the year it is, it’s never too late to set some goals. Take measurements and have a vision of what you want to look like and when you want to achieve the look. This can be a really effective motivational tool and will encourage you not to laze on the sofa. If you don’t have goals set, you really don’t have an aim in sight and this can make it really difficult to keep going.

Work Out At Home

On the days that you really can’t go out for a run, attend your Zumba class or hit the gym; it is still important to get a workout, even if it is only for half an hour. In these cases, do your workout at home, but make sure you do it as soon as you get in from work. Otherwise, you’ll have dinner and be too cosy to bother. The earlier you can get your exercise out of the way, the quicker you can relax.

Buy New Gear

The knowledge that you have some new clothes or equipment can be enough to get you off the couch and into the gym, so make sure you are adequately equipped. Start your exercise regime with workout clothes, new trainers and an MP3 player to make it more enjoyable. With discount sports shops and online stores competing for customers now is the perfect time to look and feel the part without breaking the bank.
